After the great success of the 2023 edition in Utrecht found the European Congress on Tropical Medicine and International Health (ECTMIH) in 2025 will take place in Hamburg, Germany. The congress brought more than 1,000 participantsfrom Europe and beyond together and reaffirmed its position as a leading platform for knowledge exchange in tropical medicine, international healthcare and global health.
Under the overarching themBetter health for all in a changing world the conference focused on the role of research in promoting health in a world characterised by economic pressures, global and local inequalities and rapid social change. Plenary sessions, parallel sessions and abstract presentations discussed how inclusive interventions, effective control measures and timely adaptation to new challenges can contribute to better health for all.
The conference was chaired by Prof Marylyn Addo, Prof. Cornelia Betsch, Prof. Jürgen May and Prof Michael Ramharter, who led a substantively strong and multidisciplinary programme. Themes such as health inequalities, infectious diseases, health systems and international cooperation were discussed in detail.
Participants included several Dutch Doctors of International Health (AIGs), as well as professionals associated with the Netherlands’ Society for Global Health (NSGH), the Knowledge Centre Global Health (KCGH) and the Training Institute Global Health & Tropical Medicine (OIGT). Their presence contributed to the visibility of the Dutch global health community and strengthened international collaborations.
The 2025 edition was hailed by participants as very instructive and productive experienced. The congress offered room for deepening, critical reflection and for forging new connections within an international network of researchers and professionals. This made ECTMIH 2025 once again a valuable meeting place for everyone committed to equitable and future-proof healthcare worldwide.
