WHIG Symposium 2026

Symposium

On 1 April, the WHIG will once again organise its annual Spring Symposium, an inspiring evening for general practitioners and other healthcare professionals with an interest in international and multicultural healthcare. In a compact and practical programme, you will gain new insights and concrete tools for travel advice, imported diseases and providing care to diverse patient populations.

This symposium is relevant for general practitioners, general practitioners in training, AIGs and others who wish to deepen their knowledge in the field of international healthcare.

The programme traditionally consists of three parts: a medical theme, a social perspective and a session on travel advice provided by an expert. All aspects are directly applicable in daily practice and relate to issues that general practitioners recognise from their consulting rooms.

Speakers

Bahar Golchehr is a GP and associate professor at Radboudumc and expert lecturer in Diversity. She is also national coordinator of Diversity and Inclusiveness at the Dutch College of General Practitioners and co-founder of CODING. In her work, she is committed to creating a sensitive and inclusive healthcare system and raising awareness around discrimination and racism in healthcare. As chairman of the day, she brings this expertise together with her experience in general practice.

Dr Eva Huis in ’t Veld is a dermatologist at Erasmus MC, with areas of focus in tropical and import dermatology, immunodermatology and infectious diseases. In dermatology, a knowledge gap still exists around skin care in dark-skinned patients. Using real-life case histories, she shows how inclusivity within dermatology can be strengthened.

Prof Michele van Vugt and Dr Katja de Jong are internist-infectiologists at Amsterdam UMC and specialise in tropical infectious diseases and traveller medicine. In an interactive session, they will share insights from their daily clinical practice and discuss common questions from general practice, with an emphasis on practical applicability.
